About Santa Fe
Santa Fe is call The City Different for it's uniqueness and diversity. It is the New Mexico State Capitol the oldest capitol in the United States. The Plaza, the focal point of downtown, was originally the center of social life and commerce. The Santa Fe grew up around the Plaza and it is still considered the heart of our City. It is the center of tourism, culture, shopping, dining and community events.
The character of Santa Fe is not just the plaza, and earth toned construction. The excellent quality of life come from it's laid back life style, 300 days of sunshine, minimal light polution allowing for brilliant star gazing, outdoor activity, and art just to name a few features. With a population of 125,000 people Santa Fe has maintained a place in the top 3 art markets in the country rivaling New York and Los Angeles. This tops tourism and government as an economic staple. Santa Fe is a 'creative consentrate'.
Outdoor life includes great on and off road bike riding, hiking, skiing, viewing the aspens in the fall, horseback riding, rafting, camping, and trips to national parks and monuments within a day. Some of the parks and monuments include the Grand Canyon, Moab, Monument Valley and Carlsbad.
Three season fun includes the world class Santa Fe Opera, a diverse repertoire of live outdoor music on the plaza, six Wednesdays of outdoor jazz at Saint John's college, film, art, and food festivals including The International Folk Art Market, Indian Market, Spanish Market, Balloon Festival (in Albuqeruque), ZoZobra, Wine and Chilli Festival, and a variety of festivals at the living museum of Rancho de los Golandrinas. There is never enough time to get to everything. As a resident for 25 years I continue to discover new things to explore, and continue to revisit old favorites like Tent Rocks and Bandelier.
As a matter of real estate Santa Fe has a unique look of earth tones based on the original affordable material of mud bricks called adobe. Families were able to build or expand their homes with the sweat from their own brow with this labor intensive material. That architecture has evolved to frame and stucco. Adobe is no longer the most affordable material unless you make the bricks yourself.
Santa Fe is now a community of tradition and innovation, urban and rural, affordable and luxury all existing side by side and creating a City of micro-markets. Overall Santa Fe is a celebration of time, spirit, creativity, and exploration.
